ImageSekembalinya dari Australia, antara tahun 1956-1960 Daeng Soetigna diangkat menjadi kepala Jawatan Kebudayaan Departemen P dan K Provinsi Jawa Barat. Kemudian antara tahun 1960-1964, ia menjadi kepala Konservatori Karawitan Jurusan Sunda di Bandung. Akhirnya pada tahun 1964, atas permintaanya sendiri ia pensiun. Ia menulis sendiri tentang dirinya setelah pensiun sebagai berikut:

“Naon Gawena Si Etjle Sanggeus Pansiun? Nu geus tangtu: beuki loba waktu keur sare. Tapi ari kana nyanyabaan mah resep bae. Kajeun sare dina kereta api atawa dina kapal udara.” (Apa Kerja si Etjle Sesudah Pensiun? Yang sudah pasti: semakin banyak waktu untuk tidur. Tetapi kalau untuk bepergian, tetap senang. Meskipun tidur dalam kereta api atau dalam pesawat terbang).

Sebenarnya tidak “tidur” dalam arti sebenarnya. Masih banyak yang dapat dilakukannya selama duapuluh tahun sesudah ia pensiun, tidak saja bagi dirinya dan keluarganya tetapi juga untuk tugas-tugas sosial dan negara. Sesudah pensiun tahun 1964, ia keliling dunia, yakni ke Manila, Hongkong, Tokyo, Honolulu, San Francisco, New York, Paris, Negeri Belanda, Cairo, Karachi, dan Bombay. Tahun 1964, dalam rangka kegiatan BAPENYF (Badan Penyelenggara New York Fair) ia melawat ke Amerika Serikat untuk memimpin pertunjukan-pertunjukan kesenian Indonesia di Indonesian Pavillion di New York. Dari Amerika Serikat perjalanan dilanjutkan ke Perancis dan Negeri Belanda. Tahun 1967, atas perintah Panglima Komando MANDALA SIAGA (No. PRIN/109/1967 tanggal 25 Maret 1967) melawat ke Malaysia untuk memimpin pertunjukan-pertunjukan kesenian di Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru, Malaka,Alor Star, Ipoh, Kuantan, Kuala Treanggano, Kota Baru dan Port Dickson. Kemudian pada tahun 1973, atas permintaan Pemerintah Malaysia, untuk kedua kalinya ia pergi ke Kuala Lumpur guna mengadakan pertunjukan-pertunjukan amal (Charity Shows) demi kepentingan National Heroes Welfare Trust Fund. Pertunjukkan ini diselenggarakan dalam rangka mencari dana untuk korban-korban teror komunis.
    
Atas segala prestasi yang telah ditunjukkan dan dicapai Daeng dalam bidang seni, terutama dalam mempopulerkan angklung untuk pendidikan, maka pada tanggal 15 Oktober 1968 Daeng Soetigna mendapat tanda kehormatan SATYALANCANA KEBUDAYAAN dari Presiden Republik Indonesia Soeharto. Peristiwa ini besar sekali artinya bagi Daeng, karena terjadi pada masa pensiunnya.
    
Ketika ia mulai sering sakit, bahkan sampai dirawat di Rumah Sakit Advent tahun 1983 untuk menjalani operasi saluran urinenya, ia sedang merencanakan pergelaran angklung di Jambore Pandu Veteran sedunia di Dalfsen, Provinsi Zwalle, Negeri Belanda. Dalam jambore yang diprogramkan International Fellowship of Former Scouts and Guides yang berpusat di Brussels, Daeng merencanakan pergelaran angklung yang didukung 300 orang pemain untuk membawakan lagu-lagu yang sudah populer di Negeri Belanda yaitu Burung Kakak Tua, Daarbij die Molen, dan Jambore Song. Selama ia dirawat, latihan pun tetap berlangsung dengan pelatih sementara, Permadi.
    
Selain persiapan pergelaran di Negeri Belanda, Daeng juga tengah mendokumentasikan angklung hasil kreasinya melalui sekolah-sekolah dasar yang ada di Bandung. Kegiatan ini telah dimulai sejak tahun 1982 dengan bantuan dana dari Pemerintah Daerah Jawa Barat melalui Proyek Pengembangan Kesenian. Selama dalam perawatan, tugas-tugas itu dipercayakan kepada Mang Udjo Ngalagena yang terkenal dengan Saung Angklung “Padasuka”. Ia merupakan salah seorang murid Daeng dalam bidang angklung selain murid-murid utama lainnya seperti Mohd. Hidayat W, Agam Ngadimin, Sanoe’i, Opan Sopandi, dan Yahya Erawan.
    
Daeng Soetigna termasuk orang yang berbahagia di tengah keluarganya. Jika ia berasal dari keluarga besar, maka ia pun menurunkan keluarga besar. Dari istrinya Nyi Raden Masyuti, Daeng mempunyai beberapa orang anak, yakni: Aam Amalia (kawin dengan Ir. Hidayat yang bekerja di Departemen Pertanian, Jakarta), Edja (kawin dengan Ir. Utomo Djajanegara yang bekerja di IPB Bogor), Erna (kawin dengan Drs. Buadi yang bekerja di Kebun Raya Bogor), Iwan Soewargana (kini tinggal di Negeri Belanda), Erna Garnasih (kawin dengan Drs. A.D. Pirous, seorang pelukis terkemuka yang menjadi dosen di ITB Bandung), Itin Gartinah (suaminya telah meninggal, kini tinggal di Jakarta), Utut Gartini (suaminya bekerja di Garuda Jakarta). Putri bungsu ini terkenal pula sebagai seniwati, penari Sunda klasik dan seni klasik.
    
Dari putri-putrinya Daeng mempunyai sejumlah cucu. Hari ulang tahun Daeng Soetigna yang dirayakan oleh seluruh anggota keluarganya setiap tanggal 13 Mei biasa disebut “Hari Cucu”.  Untuk para cucunya, ia menyediakan sejumlah hadiah. Dalam acara yang dihadiri semua anak dan cucunya itu, diadakan perlombaan-perlombaan “mengail berhadiah”, “makan kerupuk dengan cepat” dan lain-lain. Saat-saat semacam ini adalah yang paling bahagia dalam hidupnya; bahkan ulang tahun Daeng yang ke-75 dirayakan ketika ia berada dalam perawatan di Rumah Sakit Advent (1983).
    
Image Pada tanggal 6 April 1984 Daeng Soetigna meninggal dunia dan dimakamkan di Bandung. Ia adalah salah seorang seniman dan pendidik terkemuka di Indonesia. Jasa-jasanya terutama dalam menempilkan sebagai instrumen asli Indonesia pada tempat yang terhormat, tidak dapat dilupakan orang. Di rumah duka Jalan Mangga 30 banyak tokoh-tokoh terkemuka yang datang melayat. Bahkan di tempat pemakamannya, Gubernur Jawa Barat Aang Kunaefi turut melepaskannya. Daeng Soetigna telah melaksanakan peranan menurut apa yang telah ditakdirkan Allah SWT untuknya dalam hidup ini. Ia telah meninggalkan kepada kita semua sesuatu yang baik yang patut untuk dikenang dan diteladani.
