<<< Welcome to Angklung Web Institute (AWI)! This website is a medium of information exchange about angklung knowledge and competence, especially diatonic angklung in orchestral composition. The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. Until now, angklung still has to face many challenges of identity to be acknowledged as one of world’s standard music instruments. One major problem is that there is no firm standard yet in constructing, tuning, forming, playing, and compositing angklung. Another problem is that until today, an angklung music community as a media of education and industrialization of the angklung music hasn’t been founded yet. Through this website we would like to ask you who have a great concern to the development of angklung to pass this piece of information to the world in order to support this developing music instrument. Through this website we would like to convey an angklung-ical activity to an angklung team or community and hopefully someday the industrialization of angklung can be realized. DI USIA 50 TAHUN, UNPAD AKAN SELAMATKAN BAMBU (Kompas, 6 Agustus 2007)

BANDUNG, KOMPAS--Pada 11 september 2007, Universitas Padjadjaran atau Unpad Bandung genap berusia 50 tahun. Banyak kegiatan yang dilaksanakan sejak maret hingga November 2007 untuk merayakan usia setengah abadnya. Salah satunya adalah membuat rekor Museum Rekor Indonesia (Muri) dengan menggelar pertunjukan musik angklung oleh lebih dari 10.000 mahasiswa baru Unpad pada senin (27/8).

Untuk menyelamatkan bambu dan produk bambu Unpad juga menyiapkan lahan seluas lima hektar untuk ditanami berbagai jenis bambu. Menurut Rektor Unpad ganjar Kurnia lokasi penanaman bambu akan ditempatkan di Kampus Unpad Jatinangor.

Ganjar mengatakan saat ini Unpad belum memiliki peneliti khusus di bidang bambu. Padahal banyak masalah bambu yang bisa digarap untuk menyelamatkan bambu dan produknya. Hingga kini belum ada teknologi yang mampu mengawetkan bambu dari serangan rayap.

Selain itu ketika dijadikan alat musik seperti angklung, belum ada teknologi yang mampu mengatasi perubahan suara saat pergantian musim.

”Ketika dibawa ke negeri subtropis, angklung tak bisa berbunyi di musim dingin dan nadanya berubah di musim panas. Namun, belum ada teknologi untuk mengatasinya,” kata Ganjar yang mengatakan kemungkinan Unpad akan memberikan dana penelitian bagi para civitas akademia yang mau meneliti bambu dari berbagai aspek.
